Subject: | I/P Cluster Lens May Craze or Crack (Replace I/P Cluster Lens Only) |
Models: | 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier |
The plastic I/P cluster lens may show signs of crazing or cracking. The condition generally begins in the lower corners of the lens and spreads outward toward the center area.
It is unknown at this time if the crazing is a production concern or if other factors at time of delivery and during customer use create this condition. Crazing is generally a reaction between the material involved and an applied chemical. In some other cases, UV rays can be a factor. During pre-delivery inspections, please use only a damp rag to clean the cluster lens.
Notice: Use care when replacing the lens. Do not mar the face of the cluster when releasing the lens locking tabs. Use care not to damage the gage needles while the cluster is open.
The cluster lens has been released as a separate part from the cluster. Please order P/N 16256940 and replace ONLY the lens. DO NOT replace the entire cluster, P/N 09392441. To replace the lens, you must remove the cluster. Refer to I/P Cluster Replacement in the Instrument Panel and Console sub-section of the Service Manual. Once you have removed the cluster, depress the locking tabs along the edge of the lens and separate from the cluster. Confirm that the new lens is clean and avoid touching the inside surface of the lens. The new lens will install by pushing on it until all tabs lock. Reinstall the cluster as directed in the Service Manual procedure.
