Subject: | Service VME - Grinding/Rattle Noise with Clutch Fully Disengaged |
Models: | . |
When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.
A concern may arise of a grinding noise on clutch apply. This would typically occur at very low mileage, or even during the pre-delivery test drive. The cause for this noise may be a clutch pedal over travel condition, causing a hard contact on the clutch fingers.
To correct this condition, please review bulletin 02-07-31-003A, which provides service procedures and part numbers for installing a new style hydraulic clutch line. Although the bulletin does not address this specific condition, the service procedure is the same. This new clutch line will provide the reserve required to eliminate the over travel condition. Clutch replacement is not required, as the lining surface to pressure plate interface is not where the noise emits from the vehicle. Vehicles built before October 1, 2003 may benefit from this procedure. After this date, this new style clutch line is installed at production.
.
Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.
