Removal Procedure
Caution: When carrying an undeployed inflator module:
ā¢ | Do not carry the inflator module by the wires or connector. |
ā¢ | Make sure the air bag opening points away from you. |
When storing an undeployed inflator module:
ā¢ | Make sure the air bag opening points away from the surface on which
the inflator module rests. |
ā¢ | Provide free space for the air bag to expand in case of an accidental
deployment. |
ā¢ | When storing a steering column, do not rest the column with the air
bag opening facing down and the column vertical. Lay the column on its side. |
Failure to observe these guidelines may result in personal injury.
- Disable the SIR system. Refer to
SIR Disabling and Enabling
.
- Remove the I/P trim pad. Refer to
Instrument Panel Trim Pad Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gages, and
Console.
- Remove the air distributor duct. Refer to
Air Distributor Duct Replacement
in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
- Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the inflatable restraint
I/P module yellow 2-way pigtail connector.
- Disconnect the yellow 2-way pigtail connector
from the inflatable restraint I/P module.
- Remove the mounting bolts (2) from
the inflatable restraint I/P module (1).
- Remove the inflatable restraint module (1) from the I/P
Installation Procedure
- Install the inflatable restraint module (1)
to the I/P
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the mounting bolts (2) to the inflatable restraint module.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 5 NĀ·m (44 lb in).
- Connect the yellow 2-way pigtail connector
to the inflatable restraint module.
- Install the CPA to the yellow 2-way pigtail connector on the inflatable restraint
module.
- Install the air distributor duct. Refer to
Air Distributor Duct Replacement
in Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
- Install the I/P trim pad. Refer to
Instrument Panel Trim Pad Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gages, and
Console.
- Enable the SIR system. Refer to
SIR Disabling and Enabling
.
- Fully deploy the module before disposal. If the module was replaced under
warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required retention period.
