Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 41416 Ultrasonic Leak Detector


    Object Number: 401921 Size: SH
  1. Relieve the CNG fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
  2. Remove the battery. Refer to Battery Cable Replacement -- Auxiliary in Engine Electrical in the 1998 J Platform Service Manual.
  3. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls -- 2.2L in the 1998 J Platform Service Manual.
  4. Disconnect the fuel line at the union (1).

  5. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  6. Disconnect the fuel line at the manual shut-off valve (MSV).

    7. Object Number: 401923 Size: SH
  7. Remove the fuel line from the clips along the underbody.
  8. Remove the fuel line.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the fuel line.
  2. Connect the fuel line to the clips along the underbody.

    3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Connect the fuel line at the manual shut-off valve using a new O-ring face seal. Lubricate the O-ring with petroleum jelly or the equivalent.

    4. Tighten
    Tighten the fuel line fitting to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  4. Lower the vehicle.
  5. Connect the fill line at the union (1) using a new O-ring face seal. Lubricate the O-ring with petroleum jelly or the equivalent.

    6. Tighten
    Tighten the fuel line fitting to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  6. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls -- 2.2L in the 1998 J Platform Service Manual.
  7. Install the battery. Refer to Battery Cable Replacement -- Auxiliary in Engine Electrical in the 1998 J Platform Service Manual.
  8. Start the engine. Inspect for CNG fuel leaks at each serviced fitting using the J 41416 .
