Striker Tie Bar Bracket Replacement - Rear Door Right or Left

Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 29843-9 Door Lock Striker and Seat Belt Torx Wrench


    Object Number: 401940  Size: SH
  1. Lower the rear seat.
  2. Remove the quarter trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement -- Rear Quarter in Interior Trim in the J Platform Service Manual.
  3. Remove the door latch striker attaching bolts.
  4. Remove the door latch striker (LH shown, RH similar).

  5. Object Number: 401941  Size: SH
  6. Remove the rear door latch support bracket attaching bolts from the rear seat backing plate.
  7. Remove the rear door latch support bracket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 401941  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the rear door latch support bracket to the rear seat backing plate.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the door latch support bracket bolts to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  3. Install the door latch striker.

  4. Object Number: 401940  Size: SH
  5. Install the door latch striker attaching bolts. Snug, but do not tighten the bolts.
  6. Adjust the door latch striker. Refer to Lock Striker Adjustment in Doors in the J Platform Service Manual.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the door latch striker bolts to 24 N·m (18 lb ft) using the J 29843-9

  8. Install the quarter trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement -- Rear Quarter in Interior Trim in the J Platform Service Manual.
  9. Raise the rear seat.
