STEERING SHORT GEAR INSTALL. TIME & PART # INFORMATION

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1982-84 'J', 'X', 'A' and 1985 'C' Series Vehicles

'Short Gear' rack and pinion assemblies are available for service replacement. The short gear is a complete gear assembly except for the following:

2. Tie rod boots

3. Breather tube

4. Attachment hardwdre

Boot clamps are included with the short gear.

Use of the short gear is recommended when the expense of individual parts and required labour necessary to service a rack and pinion assembly would exceed the expense of installing the short gear assembly. The short gear incorporates all product improvements made since 1982.

Refer to the appropriate chassis service manual for information on parts transfer or R & R procedures.

CAUTION:

Failure to disconnect the intermediate shaft from the rack and pinion stud shaft prior to lowering the cradle can result in damage to the steering gear and/or intermediate shaft. Operation of the vehicle with this damage can cause loss of steering control which could result in pesonal injury.

Use Labour Operation E9730 and Claim the appropriate time as indicated below.
