CUTLASS CIERA GLOVE BOX DOOR LATCH WILL NOT HOLD ADJ.

EARLY PRODUCTION CARS MAY EXPERIENCE COMMENTS THAT THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR WILL NOT HOLD A TIGHT ADJUSTMENT. THIS CONDITION IS ACCENTED BY ROUGH ROADS. PAGE 8B2-5 SHOWS THE PROCEDURE FOR ADJUSTMENT OF THE FORE-AFT ADJUSTING SCREW. YOU MAY FIND THAT THIS SCREW DOES NOT FIT TIGHT ENOUGH ON EARLY CARS. TO CORRECT THIS CONDITION REMOVE THE GLOVE BOX STRIKER SWITCH. REMOVE THE FORE-AFT ADJUSTING SCREW AND SEPARATE THE TOP PART OF THE SWITCH SO THAT THE ADJUSTING SCREW THREADS ARE VISABLE. COAT THESE THREADS WITH R.T.V. SEALER AND REASSEMBLE. THE RTV SEALER SHOULD TAKE UP THE FREE PLAY IN THE THREADS AND THEREFORE ALLOW HOLDING THE PROPER ADJUSTMENT. (FIG. 6).

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
