NEW BOTTOM PAN AND COATING CELLULOSE GASKET

Model and Year: 1984-88 CELEBRITY WITH THM 440-T4 TRANSAXLES

A new transaxle bottom pan and latex coated cellulose gasket entered production on THM 440-T4 transaxles January 5, 1988 (Julian Date 005). The new bottom pan has a continuous raised rib on the pan rail and when used with the latex coated gasket, will result in better sealing and reduction of crushing/splitting out the gasket when the pan bolts are torqued.

When replacement of the bottom pan on a 1984-88 THM 440-T4 transaxle is required use the service package listed below. If the previous pan is used with the new gasket or the new pan is used with a cork gasket, fluid leaks may develop.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition.
