BENCH TYPE SEAT ADJUSTER BINDS REPAIR PROCEDURE

Model and Year: 1984-88 CELEBRITY WITH BENCH SEAT

A binding condition on two way manual seat adjuster used on bench type seats may be corrected in some cases by use of the following procedure.

1. Move seat to full forward position, loosen rear adjuster to floor pan attachments.

2. From drivers position move seat to full rearward position, then forward far enough to access rear attachments. Torque rear attachments to 20-28 N.m. Cycle seat forward and back several times to confirm binding is corrected.

3. If above steps do not stop binding, loosen rear attachments and force rear of adjuster outboard and torque to 20-28 N.m. from drivers position cycle to confirm binding is corrected.

The above procedure should be preformed before adjusters are replaced, and on new adjusters to insure the new adjusters are tracking parallel.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
