Some 1984-85 Celebrity's may have a creaking noise from the base stainless steel wheel cover. This noise is caused by the wheel cover flexing on the wheel. This condition may be corrected by drilling holes in the galvanized steel retention band and installing a nylon clip in the holes. The wheel cover should be removed and placed upside down on a protected surface. The galvanized retention band has six dimples formed on the second step of the band. Two are on either side of the valve hole opening and four at the mid point between the retention clips. These dimples should be hammered flush while carefully using a support under the retention band, (Figure A). Then center punch and drill 6-7/32" holes at the point of each dimple. Install six nylon clips, P/N 411700, as shown in (Figure A).

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
