A CUSTOMER MAY COMMENT THAT THE HOOD IS STICKING SHUT AND/OR DIFFICULT TO OPEN ON SOME SUBJECT VEHICLES. THIS CONDITON MAY BE CAUSED BY THE HOOD POP-UP SPRING GETTING CAUGHT IN THE LATCH PLATE. THIS CONDITION WAS CORRECTED IN PRODUCTION ABOUT NOVEMBER 1, 1984 BY REVISING THE UPPER RADIATOR SUPPORT. FIELD CORRECTION CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED BY REMOVING THE HOOD LATCH PLATE AND INSERTING A PLATED WASHER (1.6" O.D. X .5 I.D. X .08" THICK), P/N 14078623, INTO THE SPRING SEAT AREA AND THEN BOLTING THE HOOD LATCH PLATE BACK INTO POSITION (SEE ILLUSTRATION). IF DAMAGED, THE SPRING MAY NEED REPLACEMENT.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
