ACCESSORY DRIVE BELT TENSION SHOP MANUAL OMISSION

Model and Year: 1986 CELEBRITY MODELS

This revised Dealer Bulletin cancels and replaces 86-63 dated April, 1986 which should be destroyed. This reissue reflects information concerning accessory drive belt tensioning and a revision to Figure 2 on Page 2.

The following belt tension information was omitted from the 1985 and 1986 Celebrity Shop Manual (ST 365-85, ST-365-86).

Drive belt tension is important in maintaining proper operation of engine accessory drive systems and in extending the normal life of drive belts. When drive belts require replacement or adjustment, follow the drive belt specifications listed in Table #1 using belt tension tool KM J-23600-B (or equivalent).

As shown in the table, the used reading is the lowest allowable setting before the belt must be reset. When readjusting, the adjustment specifi- cations should be met. When adjusting a drive belt, it is important that the proper adjustment specifications be used.

Figures 1 and 2 illustrate belt routing for 2.8L V6 engines, Code X and W and for the 2.5 L4 engines Code R. Figures 3 through 9 illustrate mounting of accessory drive components, adjustment and pivot bolts and proper pry points for belt tensioning.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
