ENG. STALL WHEN SHIFT TO REV. OR DRIVE AFTER RESTART

Model and Year: 1981-87 MODELS EQUIPPED WITH A THM 125C

This bulletin is being revised to include 1982-85 models equipped with 4.3L Diesel Engines. The Solenoid and Conduit Assembly Part numbers for those models have been added under service parts information. All copies of Chevrolet Dealer Service Bulletin 87-260-7A, dated January, 1988, should be discarded and replaced with this bulletin.

A new design torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoid (refer Figure 1), which has an internal rubber seal that will prevent sediment from sticking to the electromagnetic portion of the solenoid, is in production in all 1987 THM 125C models built after June 8, 1987 (Julian Date 159, refer Figure 2). The new design solenoid will reduce the potential of TCC Solenoid sticking and the resulting condition of the engine stalling while shifting into reverse or drive.

IMPORTANT:

Some vehicles equipped with Windsor Transaxles built between February 15th and February 25th, 1987, (Julian dates 049 - 056), may have suspect Torque Converter clutch (TCC) solenoidS. The suspect solenoids, which are of the previous design, may stay applied after transaxle has been operated at normal operating temperatures. This condition could result in engine stall while engaging reverse or drive range.

The new design solenoid (refer Figure 3) can be used to service all past THM 125C Transaxle models. Remove the side cover and replace the solenoid and conduit assembly (on car service).

SERVICE PARTS INFORMATION:

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
