DIC/'CK.ENG.'LIGHTS STAY ON LAMP DRIVER CIRC.BD. LEFT IN

Vehicles Affected: 1985 Pontiac 6000 With Canadian Calibrated Vehicles

Some comments have been received where the D.i.c. light and/or check engine light will not go out once the vehicle is started.

On some early production vehicles equipped with Canadian Emissions (NO ECM), the check engine light lamp driver circuit board may have been inadvertently left in the wiring harness during production. On Canadian calibrated vehicles this lamp dirver circuit board is not required.

If a subject vehicles should experience this condition and it is determined that no other condition is causing the light ot stay on, then the vehicle should be inspected to determine if the lamp driver circuit board was left in. If this is the case the board should be removed and discarded.

The lamp driver circuit board is located inside a light greenish blue plastic holder which is situated directly above the ALCL connector.

If any cases are encountered, please complete a Product Information Report.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
