Port Fuel Injector usage for 2.BL V6 engines is surmnarized as follows:
1985 Model year (Early) Bosch injector (Late) Bosch injector 1986 Model year Bosch injector MULTEC injector (Production Option) 1987 Model year Bosch injector (First Generation Engine Only)
During the 1986 model year, a limited number of first generation 2.8 liter V6 MPFI engines were built with MULTEC fuel injectors. This newly designed injector is being produced by the Rochester Products Division and looks slightly different from the Bosch injector. See Illustration for comparison. The primary difference in appearance between the two injectors is at the spray tip end, and is due to the different fuel metering designs. Fuel metering in the MULTEC injector is controlled by a ball valve/seat and director plate, while metering control in the Bosch design is done by a pintle valve and seat.
First Generation Engine - 1985-1987 (with a single fuel rail)
Use EITHER the Bosch injector, Service Package P/N 17111297, or the MULTEC injector, Service Package P/N 17111661 (includes appropriate injector retainer for single fuel rail.). Replace injectors individually, not in sets.
Second Generation Engine - 1987 (With dual fuel rails)
Use ONLY the MULTEC injector, Service Package P/N 17111799 (includes appropriate injector retainer for dual fuel rail). The ECM used with this engine requires the use of this injector only. Replace injectors individually, not in sets.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
