During 1985 model year production, the spring was removed from the throttle lever and bracket assembly (Figure 2, Item 50) to reduce throttle pedal effort. This change is also on all Service Replacement Transmission Assembly (SRTA) models.
Date Of Production-Change: (Refer to Figure 1)
April, 1985, throttle valve lever return spring eliminated.
Do not install a throttle valve lever return spring on any THM 440-T4 that does not have one. When servicing a THM 440-T4, the spring can be eliminated on any 1984-1985 model to reduce throttle pedal effort.
Service Manual Reference:
The 1987 Service Manual will be updated to reflect the change.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
