CAMPAIGN: WIRING HARNESS MISROUTED

Model and Year: 1985 CHEVROLET CELEBRITY MODELS EQUIPPED WITH RPO LB6 2.8L (VIN CODE W) V6 ENGINE AND RPO C60 (AIR CONDITIONING) ASSEMBLED AT FRAMINGHAM ONLY

TO: ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS

General Motors has determined that some 1985 Chevrolet Celebrity Models equipped with RPO LB6 2.8L (VIN Code W) V6 Engine and RPO C60 (Air Conditioning) may have been assembled with a misrouted engine wiring harness. This condition, if not corrected, can cause damage to the wiring harness as well as an engine no-start condition.

To correct this condition an inspection of the wiring harness will be made. If the wiring harness is misrouted or damaged it will be repaired.

VEHICLES INVOLVED

Involved are certain 1985 Chevrolet Celebrity models equipped with RPO LB6 2.8L (VIN Code W) V6 Engine and RPO C60 (Air Conditioning) within the following parameters:

Involved vehicles have been identified by Vehicle Identification Number Computer Listings. Computer listings contain the complete Vehicle Iden- tification Number, owner name and address data, and are furnished to the involved dealers with the campaign bulletin. Owner name and address data furnished will enable dealers to follow-up with owners involved in this campaign.

These listings may contain owner names and addresses obtained from State Motor Vehicle Registration Records. The use of such motor vehicle regis- tration data for any other purpose is a violation of law in several states. Accordingly, you are urged to limit the use of this listing to the follow-up necessary to complete this campaign. Any dealer not receiving a computer listing with the campaign bulletin was not shipped any involved vehicles.

OWNER NOTIFICATION

Owners will be notified of this campaign on their vehicles by Chevrolet Motor Division (see copy of Owner Letter included with this bulletin).

DEALER CAMPAIGN RESPONSIBILITY

Dealers are to service all vehicles subject to this campaign at no charge to owners, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership, from this time forward.

Whenever a vehicle subject to this campaign is taken into your new or used vehicle inventory, or it is in your dealership for service in the future, you should take the steps necessary to be sure the campaign correction has been made before reselling or releasing the vehicle.

PARTS INFORMATION

Parts required to complete this modification are to be obtained from General Motors Warehousing and Distribution Division (GMWDD). To ensure that these parts will be obtained as soon as possible they should be ordered from CMWDD on a C.I.O. order with no special instruction code, but on an advise code (2).

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Discharge the A/C system and disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Disconnect the pressure cycling switch connector.

3. Disconnect the A/C low pressure suction line at the accumulator.

4. Remove screw from harness clip; located inboard of the blower motor.

5. Remove engine harness from in front of the accumulator.

6. Inspect harness for any heat or rubbing damage. If damage is noted, repair by taping damaged conduit or wires.

NOTICE: In some cases the harness may be routed under the inlet heater hose. If this is the case drain cooling system enough to allow disconnection of heater hose at the thermostat housing and remove harness. Reconnect the heater hose and fill cooling system.

7. Locate and route engine harness and pressure cycling switch harness as shown in the illustration.

8. Install harness clip and screw.

9. Install and connect the A/C low pressure suction line to the accumulator.

10. Install pressure cycling switch connector and connect battery.

11. Evacuate and recharge A/C system.

12. Install "Campaign Identification Label" according to instructions contained in this bulletin.

DESCRIPTION: Inspect, reroute and repair engine wiring harness located behind accumulator and around inlet heater hose.

*Campaign Administrative Allowance.

**The Parts Allowance should be the sum total of the current GMWDD Dealer Net plus 30% of all parts required for the repair.

Dealer will automatically receive the correct labor allowance based on the labor operation performed. Refer to the Chevrolet Claims Processing Manual for details on Product Campaign Claims submission.

CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL

Each vehicle modified in accordance with the instructions outlined in this Product Campaign Bulletin will require a "Campaign Identification Label." Each label provides a space to include the five digit dealer code of the dealer performing the campaign service. This information may be inserted with a typewriter or ballpoint pen.

Each "Campaign Identification Label" is to be located on the radiator core support in an area which will be visible when the vehicle is brought in for periodic servicing by the owner. Apply "Campaign Identification Label" only on a clean dry surface.

ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURE

REFER TO THE CURRENT CHEVROLET SERVICE POLICIES AND PROCEDURES MANUAL AND CLAIMS PROCESSING MANUAL FOR CAMPAIGN HANDLING AND ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURES.

General Motors has determined that some 1985 Chevrolet Celebrity models equipped with RPO LB6 2.8L (VIN Code W) V6 Engine and RPO C60 (Air Con- ditioning) may have been assembled with a misrouted engine wiring harness. This condition, if not corrected, can cause damage to the wiring harness as well as an engine no-start condition.

To correct this condition on your vehicle an inspection of the engine wiring harness will be made. If the wiring harness is misrouted or damaged it will be repaired. This service will be performed for you at no charge.

Instructions for this service have been sent to your Chevrolet dealer. Please contact your dealer to arrange a service date. The labor time to inspect your vehicle is approximately 15 minutes. If the wiring harness needs rerouting or repair, it will be an additional 1 hour and 15 minutes. Please ask your dealer if you wish to know how much additional time will be needed to process your vehicle.

The enclosed owner reply card identifies your vehicle. Presentation of this card to your dealer will assist in making the necessary correction in the shortest possible time. If you have sold or traded your vehicle, please complete the postage paid reply card and return it to us.
