CAMPAIGN:INTERFERENCE ENGINE MOUNT BRACKET TO OIL FILTER

GENERAL MOTORS HAS DETERMINED THAT CERTAIN 1985 CHEVROLET CELEBRITY AND CITATION MODELS EQUIPPED WITH RPO'S LE2(X) OR LB6(W) 2.8L V6 ENGINES MAY EXPERIENCE AN INTERFERENCE CONDITION BETWEEN THE ENGINE MOUNT BRACKET AND THE OIL FILTER CANISTER. THIS CONDITION IF NOT CORRECTED CAN MAKE IT DIFFICULT TO REMOVE AND REPLACE THE ENGINE OIL FILTER DURING SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE INTERVALS WITHOUT REMOVING THE ENGINE MOUNT BRACKET. VEHICLES INVOLVED CERTAIN 1985 CHEVROLET CELEBRITY AND CITATION MODELS EQUIPPED WITH RPO'S LE2(X) OR LB6(W) 2.8L V6 ENGINES WITHIN THE FOLLOWING VEHICLE. CHECK THE C.R.I.S. SYSTEM TO DETERMINE IF A SPECIFIC VEHICLE IS INVOLVED. SERVICE PROCEDURE 1. RAISE VEHICLE. 2. INSPECT CLEARANCE BETWEEN ENGINE MOUNT BRACKET AND ENGINE OIL FILTER (REFER FIGURE 1): A. VEHICLES WITH 3MM (MINIMUM) REQUIRE NO FURTHER WORK. LOWER VEHICLE, RAISE HOOD AND INSTALL CAMPAIGN COMPLETION LABEL, CLOSE HOOD. B. VEHICLES WITH LESS THAN 3MM CLEARANCE REQUIRE REWORK. PROCEED TO STEP 3. 3. REMOVE OIL FILTER. PROTECT OIL FILTER OPENING IN ENGINE CASE FROM METAL FILINGS AND DIRT. 4. USING A GRINDING WHEEL, GRIND OFF END OF ENGINE MOUNT BRACKET TO PROVIDE A (MINIMUM) CLEARANCE OF 3MM TO OIL FILTER (REFER FIGURE 2) 5. REMOVE PROTECTION FROM OIL FILTER HOUSING. 6. REINSTALL OIL FILTER. IF ORIGINAL FILTER WAS DAMAGED, INSTALL NEW FILTER. 7. LOWER VEHICLE. 8. RAISE HOOD, CHECK OIL LEVEL AND FILL AS NECESSARY. 9. INSTALL CAMPAIGN COMPLETION LABEL AND CLOSE HOOD.
