AN INOPERATIVE HIGH LEVEL MOUNT BRAKE LAMP MAY BE THE RESULT OF A DISCONNECTED LAMP HARNESS CONNECTOR UNDER THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE SHOULD BE FOLLOWED WHEN DIAGNOSING THIS CONDITION. 1. LOWER THE DRIVERS SIDE HUSH PANEL. 2. LOCATE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL HARNESS CONNECTOR WHICH MAY BE WRAPPED IN GREY FOAM DIRECTLY ABOVE THE A.L.D.L. CONNECTOR. REMOVAL OF THE ALDL CONNECTOR BRACKET MAY PROVIDE EASY ACCESS TO THE HARNESS CONNNECTOR. 3. THE I.P. HARNESS CONNECTOR HAS A WHITE WIRE AND A LIGHT BLUE WIRE CONNECTED TO IT. IN ADDITION THERE IS A WHITE JUMPER WIRE CONNECTING THE TWO. THIS JUMPER WIRE SHOULD BE REMOVED AND DISCARDED. 4. REMOVE THE DRIVERS SIDE KICK PANEL. 5. LOCATE THE HIGH LEVEL MOUNT BRAKE LAMP BODY HARNESS WHICH CONSISTS OF A BLACK AND A LIGHT BLUE WIRE. 6. ROUTE THE HARNESS APPROPRIATELY TO MATE WITH THE I.P. CONNECTOR. 7. TEST FOR LAMP OPERATION. 8. REINSTALL KICK PANEL, ALDL CONNECTOR AND BRACKET AND THE HUSH PANEL.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
