DIESEL TACH PROBE HOLDER PROCEDURE FOR INSTALLATION

INITIAL PRODUCTION 1981 CHEVETTES EQUIPPED WITH THE LJ5 DIESEL ENGINE DO NOT INCORPORATE A PROBE HOLDER REQUIRED IF A PROBE-TYPE TACHOMETER IS USED TO SET IDLE SPEED. TO PROVIDE THIS CAPABILITY, PROBE HOLDER P/N 14047069 CAN BE INSTALLED . IF AN INJECTION TIMING SLOT IS NOT PRESENT ON THE BALANCER IT WILL BE NECESSARY TO DRILL A SMALL HOLE IN THE BALANCER ALSO. 1.INSTALL P/N 14047069 PROBE HOLDER UNDER THE LOWER TIMING BELT COVER RETAINING BOLT LOCATED ON RIGHT HAND SIDE OF ENGINE AS SHOWN IN FIGURE 1. 2.IF AN INJECTION TIMING SLOT IS NOT PRESENT ON THE BALANCER, LOCATE AND DRILL A 3.1MM (1/8") X 1.5MM (1/16") DEEP HOLE ON THE BALANCER IN LINE WITH THE CENTER LINE OF THE PROBE AS SHOWN IN FIGURE 2. IDLE SPEED CAN NOW BE SET USING THE SERVICE MANUAL PROCEDURE.
