1981 "T" STYLES (LESS SCOOTER) HAVE A NEW BUCKET SEAT WITH A TUBULAR FRAME DESIGN SEAT BACK (FIGURE #1) AND A NEW RECLINER CONTROL MECHANISM (FIGURE #2). THE TUBULAR FRAME SEAT BACK HAS A SINGLE SIDE, RECLINER CONTROL MECHANISM. THIS NEW RECLINER MECHANISM, WHICH IS MOUNTED ON THE OUTBOARD SIDE OF THE SEAT, IS THE SOLE CONTROL OF THE SEAT BACK ANGLE. THE INNER HINGE ARM ATTACHING BOLT ACTS ONLY AS A POINT OF ROTATION FOR THE SEAT BACK. ON COUPE STYLES, THE INTERIA LOCK IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE RECLINER CONTROL MECHANISM (FIGURE #3). SEAT TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS THE FOLLOWING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS SHOULD BE USED WHEN SERVICING SEAT ASSEMBLIES. 1.RECLINER MECHANISM ATTACHING BOLTS TO FRAMES -20 TO 28 N.M (15 TO 21 FT. LB). 2.FRONT SEAT BACK INNER HINGE ARM TO CUSHION FRAME BOLT -20 TO 28 N.M (15 TO 21 FT. LB). SEAT PARTS SUCH AS SEAT BACK TO CUSHION FRAME BOLTS ARE IMPORTANT ATTACHING PARTS IN THAT THEY COULD AFFECT THE PERFORMANCE OF VITAL COMPONENTS AND SYSTEMS. THEY MUST BE REPLACED WITH ONE OF THE SAME PART NUMBER. RECLINER CONTROL MECHANISM REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION (FIGURE #4) 1.REMOVE UPPER RECLINER MECHANISM COVER. 2.REMOVE LOWER RECLINER MECHANISM COVER. 3.REMOVE (2) UPPER AND (2) LOWER RECLINER MECHANISM ATTACHING BOLTS AND REMOVE RECLINER CONTROL MECHANISM. 4.TO INSTALL REVERSE REMOVAL PROCEDURE. FRONT SEAT BACK REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION (FIGURE #4) 1.MOVE SEAT TO FULL FORWARD POSITION. 2.REMOVE UPPER RECLINER MECHANISM COVER. 3.REMOVE BOTH RECLINER MECHANISM UPPER ATTACHING BOLTS. 4.REMOVE SEAT BACK INNER HINGE ARM ATTACHING BOLT AND REMOVE SEAT BACK. 5.TO INSTALL, REVERSE REMOVAL PROCEDURE.
