WINDNOISE ON 'T' SERIES WINDOW OR WINDSHIELD

Some Chevettes may experience windnoise. Three (3) areas of windnoise occurrence are detailed below.

CONDITION 1

Condition: Windnoise at the butt joint of the glass run channel weatherstrip to the window belt sealing strip.

Cause: Gaps between the glass run channel weatherstrip and the window belt sealing strip.

Correction: Some conditions may be corrected by partially removing the glass run channel weatherstrip and stretching it, then reinstalling the weatherstrip starting at the butt joint. Other conditions may be corrected by sealing the butt joint (Figure 1).

CONDITION 2

Condition: Windnoise at the lower leading edge of the front door belt sealing strip.

Cause: Air leaking under the sealing strip.

Correction: Using 3M 80119* (or equivalent) weatherstrip sealer, run a bead of sealer under the outer door glass sealing strip. Start the bead at the butt joint and run it down and back to about three (3) inches rearward of the leading edge of the glass (see Figure 1, View A). Wipe any excess sealer off with a clean cloth.

CONDITION 3

Condition: Windnoise between the dash panel and the windshield pillar.

Cause: Gaps may exist between the dash panel and the windshield pillar.

Correction: Seal the joint between the dash panel and the windshield pillar (Figure 2).

Use applicable labor operation.

If an objectionable windnoise, attributable to the glass run channel or window belt sealing strips, still exists, it may be necessary to replace one or both of the components. Revised glass run channels and door glass sealing strips have been released for service. The replacement procedure has not been changed. Part numbers are as follows:

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
