Cleaning and Inspection Procedure

Important: Do not wash the EGR valve in solvents or a degreaser -- permanent damage to the valve diaphragm may result. Do not sand blast the valve because this can affect the operation of the valve.

  1. If EGR manifold passage indicates an excessive build-up of deposits, clean the passage. Remove all loose particles in order to prevent them from clogging the EGR valve or from being ingested into the engine.
  2. With a wire wheel, buff the exhaust deposits from the mounting surface and around the valve.
  3. Look for exhaust deposits in the valve outlet. Remove the deposit build-up with a screwdriver.
  4. Clean the mounting surfaces of the intake manifold and the valve assembly.
