Exhaust Brake Noise

Problem

Action

Damaged inlet gasket

Replace the inlet gasket.

Damaged clamp ring(s)

Replace the clamp ring(s).

Loose clamp ring(s)

Tighten the clamp ring(s).

Internal seal or gasket failure

Replace the exhaust brake main body assembly.

Exhaust Brake Slow to Operate or Release

Problem

Action

Inadequate air supply to the actuator

    • Inspect the air connections.
    • Inspect the available air pressure.

Damaged actuator return spring

Replace the actuator. Refer to Engine Brake Replacement .

Damaged actuator piston

Replace the actuator. Refer to Engine Brake Replacement .

Damaged ball joint

Replace the ball joint. Refer to Engine Brake Replacement .

Excessive carbon buildup

  1. Remove the exhaust brake. Refer to Engine Brake Replacement .
  2. Clean the bore and the butterfly.
