Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to
Battery Replacement
in Engine Electrical.
- Remove the left and the right front wheel housing panels. Refer
to
Wheelhouse Panel Replacement
in Body Front End.
- Loosen the exhaust pipes at the muffler.
- Remove the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold. Tie the exhaust
pipes to the frame out of the way.
- Remove the spark plugs from the cylinder head. Refer to
Spark Plug Replacement
in Engine
Electrical.
- Remove the oil level indicator and tube from the cylinder head.
Refer to
Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement
.
- Remove the spark plug heat shields from the exhaust manifolds.
- Remove the exhaust manifold nuts (4) from the cylinder head.
- Remove the exhaust manifolds (3) from the cylinder heads.
- Clean and inspect all mating surfaces.
- Clean the threads of all the bolts.
Installation Procedure
- Install the exhaust manifold (3) to the cylinder heads.
Important: Begin the torque pattern on the center bolt or stud. Continue outward
each way.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the bolt
(5) or the stud (1) to the exhaust manifold (3).
Tighten
- Tighten the center bolts to 54 N·m (40 lb ft).
- Tighten the bolt or the stud to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).
- Tighten the exhaust pipes at the mufflers.
- Install the spark plug wire heat shield to the exhaust manifold bolt
or the stud.
