Removal Procedure
Important: A one-piece oil pan gasket is used on all Mark engines.
- Disconnect the battery
negative cable. Refer to
Battery Replacement
in Engine Electrical.
- Remove the oil level indicator tube and the bracket. Refer to
Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement
.
- Drain the engine oil.
- Remove the oil filter from the engine block. Refer to
Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement
.
- Remove the oil pan bolts.
- Remove the oil pan.
- Remove the oil pan gasket.
- Clean the gasket surfaces on the engine.
Installation Procedure
- Apply RTV sealer GM P/N 1052080
or an equivalent to the front and the rear corners of the gasket.
- Install the oil pan gasket.
- Install the oil pan.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the oil
pan bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the oil pan bolts to 18 Nยทm (13 lb ft).
- Install the oil filter on the engine block. Refer to

.
- Install the oil level indicator and the tube to the bracket. Refer
to
Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement
.
- Connect the battery negative cable to the battery terminal. Refer
to
Battery Replacement
in
Engine Electrical.
- Add the proper quantity and grade of engine oil. Refer to
Approximate Fluid Capacities
in Maintance and Lubrication.
