Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the battery
negative cable. Refer to
Battery Replacement
in Engine Electrical.
- Remove the left or right front wheel housing panels. Refer to
Wheelhouse Panel Replacement
in
Body Front End.
- Remove the radiator shrouds from the radiator . Refer to
Fan Shroud Replacement
in Engine
Cooling.
- Remove the drive belts from the vehicle. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement
.
- Remove the PTO adapter (if equipped). Refer to the Manufacturer's
Service Manual.
- Remove the crankshaft balancer from the crankshaft. Refer to
Crankshaft Balancer Replacement
.
- Remove the crankshaft front cover oil seal from the engine front
cover.
Important: Use care not to distort the timing gear cover.
- Remove the crankshaft key, if necessary, by prying the key out with
a large screwdriver.
Installation Procedure
Tools Required
J 22102 Front Cover
Seal Installer
- Install the crankshaft
key if the key was removed.
- Coat the crankshaft front oil seal with clean engine oil.
Important: Make sure that the open end of the seal faces toward the inside of the
engine.
- Install the crankshaft front oil seal with the J 22102
.
- Install the crankshaft balancer on the crankshaft. Refer to
Crankshaft Balancer Replacement
.
- Install the PTO adapter (if equipped). Refer to the Manufacturer's
Service Manual.
- Install the drive belts in the vehicle. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement
.
- Install the radiator shroud on the radiator. Refer to
Fan Shroud Replacement
in Engine Cooling.
- Install the left or right front wheel housing panels. Refer to
Wheelhouse Panel Replacement
in
Body Front End.
- Connect the battery negative cable to the battery terminal. Refer
to
Battery Replacement
in Engine Electrical.
