Removal Procedure

Caution: Replace the diaphragm every time you remove the cover in order to reduce the risk of fire and personal injury that may result from a fuel leak.

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Remove the negative battery terminal.
  2. Loosen the filler cap in order to relieve the fuel tank pressure.
  3. Remove the air cleaner, the extension, and the gasket.

  4. Object Number: 318131 Size: SH
  5. Remove the four regulator cover attaching screw assemblies (2) while keeping the pressure regulator compressed.
  6. Remove the pressure regulator cover assembly (1).
  7. Remove the pressure regulator spring (4).
  8. Remove the pressure regulator spring seat (3).
  9. Remove the pressure regulator diaphragm assembly (5).
  10. Inspect the pressure regulator valve seat in the fuel meter body (6) for pitting or nicks.
  11. Replace the fuel meter body if the seat is damaged.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 318131 Size: SH
  1. Install the new pressure regulator diaphragm assembly (5). Be sure it is seated in the groove in the fuel meter body (6).
  2. Install the regulator spring seat (3) and spring (4) into the cover assembly (1).
  3. Install the cover assembly over the diaphragm.
  4. Line up the mounting holes.

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the four regulator cover attaching screw assemblies (2) coated with the appropriate thread-locking compound, while keeping the pressure regulator compressed.
  6. Tighten
Tighten the cover attaching screws to 2.4 N·m (21 lb in).

  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8. With engine OFF and ignition ON, check for fuel leaks.
  9. Install the gasket, the extension, and the air cleaner assembly.
