1. Remove the air cleaner assembly, the extension, and the gasket.
2. Remove the IAC valve electrical connector.
3. Remove the IAC valve attaching screw assemblies.

Notice: If the IAC valve has been in service: DO NOT push or pull on the IAC valve pintle. The force required to move the pintle may damage the threads on the worm drive. Also, DO NOT soak the IAC valve in any liquid cleaner or solvent, as damage may result.

4. Remove the IAC valve assembly.
5. Clean the IAC valve O-ring sealing surface, the pintle valve seat, and the air passage.

•	Use a carburetor cleaner and a parts cleaning brush in order to remove the carbon deposits.

•	Do not use a cleaner that contains methyl ethyl ketone, which is an extremely strong solvent. The methyl ethyl ketone is not necessary for this type of a deposit.

•	The shiny spots on the pintle or seat are normal. These spots do not indicate a misalignment or a bent pintle shaft.

•	If an air passage has heavy deposits, remove the throttle body for a complete cleaning.

6. Inspect the IAC valve O-ring for the following items:

•

Cuts

•

Cracks

•	Distortion

7. Replace the IAC valve O-ring if damaged.

Important: If installing a new IAC valve, replace with an identical part. The IAC valve pintle shape and diameter are designed for the specific application.

1. Measure the distance between the tip of the IAC valve pintle and the mounting flange.

If the distance is greater than 28 mm, use finger pressure in order to slowly retract the pintle. The force required to retract the pintle of a new valve will not cause damage to the valve.

2. Lubricate the IAC valve O-ring with the engine oil. Install the O-ring on the IAC valve.
3. Install the IAC valve assembly to the throttle body.
4. Install the IAC valve attaching screws.

Tighten the screw assemblies to 3.2 N·m (28.0 lb in).

5. Connect the electrical connector to the IAC valve.
6. Install the gasket, the air cleaner extension, and the air cleaner assembly.
7. Reset the IAC valve pintle position with the following procedure:

7.1.	Start and run the engine for 5 seconds.

7.2.	Turn ignition OFF for 10 seconds.

7.3.	Restart the engine.

7.4.	Check for the proper idle operation.
