Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the air cleaner assembly, the extension, and the gasket.
  2. Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the drive motor connector.

  3. Object Number: 318172 Size: SH

Important: Block the throttle cam lever at the 11 o'clock position by inserting a 14 mm (1/2 in) socket between the governor drive motor and the throttle cam lever.

  4. Remove the governor throttle drive assembly while holding the throttle valves closed.

  5. Object Number: 318174 Size: SH
  6. Remove the four governor motor attaching screws.
  7. Remove the governor throttle drive assembly while holding the throttle valves closed.
  8. Important: The governor throttle drive assembly was lubricated at the factory with a special synthetic grease. It is not necessary to periodically lubricant all of the moving component parts. The service repair kits include a small vial of special synthetic grease to lubricate only those parts having no apparent sign of grease, or replacement parts requiring lubrication.

  9. Check for worn or damaged parts and parts with no apparent sign of grease. Refer to the important for the Governor Lubrication if any of the above conditions apply.

Installation Production

    Object Number: 318174 Size: SH

Important: Block the throttle cam lever at the 11 o'clock position by inserting a 14 mm (1/2 in) socket between the governor drive motor and the throttle cam lever.

  1. Position the throttle drive assembly in place and hold.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the four motor plate attaching screw assemblies coated with the appropriate thread-locking compound.
  4. Tighten
Tighten the attaching screw assemblies to 4.5 N·m (40 lb in).

  5. Check for free rotation of the throttle cam lever and the throttle valves.
  6. Install the gasket, the extension (spacer), and the air cleaner assembly.
