Condition

Some customers may comment on a vibration of the passenger door outside rearview mirror while driving at highway speeds. This vibration stress over time may cause cracking of the door panel inner bracket that supports the mirror brace.

Correction

A new reinforcement bracket has been developed to correct this condition. Install and weld a new reinforcement bracket inside the passenger door on affected vehicles. Use the following procedure and the part number listed below.

  1. Park and secure the vehicle.
  2. Record the radio settings, if equipped.
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4. Open the passenger side door.
  5. Place the passenger door window in the full up position.
  6. Remove the passenger interior door trim panel. Refer to the Doors sub-section of the Service Information (SI) for door trim panel replacement procedures.
  7. Tilt and secure the cab.
  8. Place non-flammable material along the inner door panel in order to prevent weld spatter damage.

  9. Object Number: 894879 Size: SH
  10. Position the reinforcement bracket between the inner slots of the door panel behind the outside rearview mirror lower brace bracket mounting, above the inner lower visibility window as shown. Secure the reinforcement bracket into position.
  11. Using a wire feed welder, or equivalent, weld the reinforcement bracket into place in the door panel in the three locations shown. A MIG welder can also be used for this procedure.
  12. Clean the welded area with a wire brush. Seal the weld areas by applying anti-corrosion material. Refer to the GM4901M-D (GM4901M-D-F French) GM Approved Refinish Materials guide for recommended product information.
  13. Close and secure the cab.
  14. Install the passenger interior door trim panel. Refer to the Doors sub-section of the Service Information (SI) for door trim panel replacement procedures.
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
  16. Reset the clock and radio settings, if equipped.
  17. Inspect the gap between the front door lower glass and the mirror bracket by completing the following steps:

  18. Object Number: 1755157 Size: SH
16.1. Remove the two mirror bracket bolts and remove the mirror bracket (1).
16.2. Remove the rubber spacer (2) on the mirror bracket.
16.3. Install the mirror bracket and bolts into position.

    Object Number: 1755159 Size: SH
16.4. Measure the gap between the lower door glass (2) and the outside mirror bracket (1) as shown. The gap should be at least 6 mm (0.23 in).
16.5. Place the rubber spacer back into position on the mirror bracket.
16.6. Tighten the mirror bracket bolts.

    Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).
