Customer Satisfaction 00015 - Multi-Function Alarm Module Nonfunctional

Subject:00015 -- Multi-Function Alarm Module Nonfunctional

Models:1998 Chevrolet and GMC Medium Duty C6/7 and T6/7 Series Trucks
Equipped with a Diesel Engine, Air Brakes, and Engine Shutdown Feature (KPJ)

Condition

On some 1998 Chevrolet and GMC C6/7 and T6/7 series medium duty trucks equipped with a diesel engine, air brakes, and the engine shutdown feature, the multi-function alarm module may not perform certain features stated in the owner's manual. These features are:

    • No warning tone for the air brake low pressure.
    • No warning tone for Check Gages.
    • No low coolant telltale lamp or warning tone.
    • No engine shutdown feature for low coolant or low oil pressure or high coolant temperature.

The air brake low-pressure warning is still achieved by the illumination of the Low Air warning light and the air pressure gage. An operator expecting a warning tone or telltate for low coolant of the engine to automatically shutdown when there is low coolant, high coolant temperatures, or low oil pressure may continue to drive the vehicle resulting in severe engine damage.

Correction

Dealers are to install a new circuit board in the multi-function alarm module.
