Condition

Some customers may comment on reduced brake pad/lining life.

Cause

Corrosion may restrict the brake booster pushrod lever from pivoting freely and cause the brakes to drag. If this condition goes undetected, it may result in reduced brake pad/lining life.

Correction

Replace the existing brake booster pushrod lever with a new lever, P/N 15014975. Lubricate all pivot points with high temperature grease, P/N 12345996 (In Canada use P/N 10953501). Follow the procedure below.

  1. Tilt the cab.

  2. Object Number: 743200  Size: LH
  3. Remove the nut (6) securing the brake booster pushrod (7) to the pushrod lever (5).
  4. Remove the nut/washer (4) and the bolt/washer (1) that secures the cab lever adjusting rod (3) to the pushrod lever (5).
  5. Remove the nut (2) securing the pushrod lever (5) to the pivot bolt (8).
  6. Remove and discard the pushrod lever (5).
  7. Clean the pivot bolt (8) and the bolt/washer (1) of any corrosion or foreign material.
  8. Apply a liberal amount of high temperature grease, P/N 12345996 (In Canada use P/N 10953501) to the pivot bolt (8) and install a new pushrod lever (5), P/N 15014975 onto the bolt.
  9. Install the nut (2) onto the pivot bolt (8).
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 68 N·m (50 lb ft).

  11. Apply a liberal amount of high temperature grease, P/N 12345996 (In Canada use P/N 10953501) to the bolt/washer (1) and stud on the pushrod lever (5).
  12. Install the brake booster pushrod (7) onto the stud on the pushrod lever (5).
  13. Install the nut (6) onto the stud on the pushrod lever (5).
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the nut (6) to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  15. Install the bolt/washer (1), the cab lever adjusting rod (3) and the nut/washer (4) to the pushrod lever (5).
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the nut/washer (4) to 70 N·m (52 lb ft).

  17. Close the cab.
