Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) On, DTC P0340 (Camshaft Position Sensor) Set (Inspect and Repair Camshaft Position Sensor Wiring)

This bulletin is being revised to add the 2006 model year, engine breakpoint, new type of tape/part number to use for repair and material allowance information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 05-06-04-033 (Section 06 - Engine/Propulsion System).

Some customers may comment that the MIL is illuminated. Upon investigation, the technician may find DTC P0340 (Camshaft Position Sensor) set.

An open circuit in the main harness side of the camshaft position sensor connector may cause this condition.

The camshaft position sensor connector (1) is located on the left side of the engine near the transmission bell housing. Refer to the illustration above.

1. Remove the smooth black plastic protective cover on the main harness side of the connector and discard, exposing the main harness camshaft position sensor wires.
2. Inspect the wiring for any corrosion or breakage. Refer to the arrow in the above illustration. Repair the wiring as necessary. Refer to Wiring Repairs.
3. After the repair, tape the harness using TESA tape to protect the harness. Do not reinstall the smooth plastic cover.

If the wiring is damaged or broken close to the connector, refer to the table below for new terminal information.
