Removal Procedure

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable (1). Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Disconnect the positive battery cable (2).

  4. Remove the auxiliary positive cable from the battery.
  5. Remove the auxiliary positive cable clips at the fan shroud.
  6. Remove the fuse/relay center nut.
  7. Remove the positive cable from the fuse/relay center.

  9. If equipped with regular production options (RPO's) K68/K60/8B0/8Y8/5X7, remove the auxiliary positive cable from the battery.
  10. Remove the auxiliary positive cable clips at the fan shroud.
  11. Remove the cable clip at the fuse/relay center bracket.
  12. Remove the fuse/relay center nut.
  13. Remove the positive cable from the fuse/relay center.
  14. Reposition the boot at the auxiliary relay.
  15. Remove the auxiliary battery relay nut.
  16. Remove the wire from the auxiliary relay.

  18. If equipped with RPO 9L4, remove the auxiliary negative and positive cables from the battery.
  19. Remove the negative and positive fuse holder screws at the radiator support.
  20. Remove the auxiliary positive cable clips at the fan shroud.
  21. Remove the cable clip at the fuse/relay center bracket.
  22. Remove the fuse/relay center nut.
  23. Remove the positive cable from the fuse/relay center.
  24. Disconnect the power fuse center harness electrical connector.
  25. Remove the auxiliary positive battery cable.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the auxiliary positive battery cable.
  2. If equipped with RPO 9L4, connect the power fuse center harness electrical connector.
  3. Install the positive cable to the fuse/relay center.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the fuse/relay center nut.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the fuse/relay center nut to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  7. Install the cable clip at the fuse/relay center bracket.
  8. Install the auxiliary positive cable clips at the fan shroud.
  9. Install the negative and positive fuse holder screws at the radiator support.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the fuse holder screw to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  11. Install the auxiliary negative and positive cables to the battery.

  13. If equipped with RPO's K68/K60/8B0/8Y8/5X7, install the wire to the auxiliary relay.
  14. Install the auxiliary battery relay nut.
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the auxiliary battery relay nut to 7.5 N·m (66 lb in).

  16. Position the boot at the auxiliary relay.
  17. Install the positive cable to the fuse/relay center.
  18. Install the fuse/relay center nut.
  19. Tighten
    Tighten the fuse/relay center nut to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  20. Install the cable clip at the fuse/relay center bracket.
  21. Install the auxiliary positive cable clips at the fan shroud.
  22. Install the auxiliary positive cable to the battery.

  23. Object Number: 747254  Size: SH
  24. Install the positive cable to the fuse/relay center.
  25. Install the fuse/relay center nut.
  26. Tighten
    Tighten the fuse/relay center nut to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  27. Install the auxiliary positive cable clips at the fan shroud.
  28. Install the auxiliary positive cable to the battery.

  29. Object Number: 746497  Size: SH
  30. Connect the positive battery cable (2).
  31. Tighten
    Tighten the positive battery cable to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  32. Connect the negative battery cable (1). Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
