Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement L18

Tools Required

    • J 38042 Dual O-Ring Tube Separator
    • J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the grille. Refer to Grille Replacement in Exterior Trim.

  3. Object Number: 644636  Size: MH
  4. Remove the compressor hose bolt from the compressor.
  5. Remove the compressor hose assembly from the compressor.
  6. Remove the compressor hose retaining bracket bolt from the upper intake manifold.
  7. Remove the sealing washers.
  8. Disconnect the hose assembly from the accumulator using the J 38042 .
  9. Remove the O-ring seals from the accumulator hose.
  10. Remove the nut from the condenser.
  11. Remove the compressor hose assembly from the condenser.
  12. Remove the O-ring seal from the compressor hose assembly.
  13. Cap or plug all of the open connections.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 644636  Size: MH
  1. Coat the new O-ring seal with 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.
  2. Install the new O-ring seal to the condenser hose.
  3. Install the compressor hose assembly to the condenser.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the nut to the condenser.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  7. Coat the new O-ring seals with 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.
  8. Install the new O-ring seals to the accumulator hose.
  9. Connect the hose assembly nut to the accumulator.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  11. Install the sealing washers.
  12. Install the hose assembly to the compressor.
  13. Install the compressor hose bolt to the A/C compressor.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).

  15. Install the compressor hose retaining bracket bolt to the upper intake manifold.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  17. Install the grille. Refer to Grille Replacement in Exterior Trim.
  18. Evacuate and recharge the refrigerant system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  19. Leak test the fittings of the component using the J 39400-A .

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the grille. Refer to Grille Replacement in Exterior Trim.

  3. Object Number: 257973  Size: MH
  4. Remove the compressor hose bolt from the A/C compressor.
  5. Remove the hose assembly from the top of the compressor.
  6. Remove the sealing washers.
  7. Remove the hose assembly from the accumulator using the J 38042 .
  8. Remove the O-Ring seals from the accumulator hose.
  9. Remove the compressor hose assembly nut from the condenser.
  10. Remove the hose assembly from the condenser.
  11. Remove the O-ring seal from the condenser hose.
  12. Cap or plug all of the open connections.

  1. Coat the new O-ring seal with 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.
  2. Install the new O-ring seal to the condenser hose.
  3. Install the compressor hose assembly to the condenser.

  8. Install the new O-ring seals to the accumulator hose.
  9. Connect the hose assembly nut to the accumulator.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  11. Install the sealing washers.
  12. Install the compressor hose assembly the compressor.
  13. Install the compressor hose assembly bolt to the A/C compressor.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 34 N·m (25 lb ft).

  15. Install the grille. Refer to Grille Replacement in Exterior Trim.
  16. Evacuate and recharge the refrigerant system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  17. Leak test the fittings of the component using the J 39400-A .
