Rear Brake Hose Replacement Caliper

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Clean all dirt and foreign material from the brake hose and brake pipe fitting.
  3. Important: Install a rubber cap or plug to the exposed brake pipe fitting ends in order to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

  4. Use a backup wrench on the hose fitting, disconnect the brake pipe fitting from the brake hose, then cap or plug the brake pipe fitting end.
  5. Remove the brake hose retaining clip from the hose mounting bracket.
  6. Remove the hose from the bracket.

  8. Remove the brake hose to caliper bolt from the brake caliper.
  9. Remove the brake hose from the brake caliper.
  10. Remove and discard the 2 copper brake hose gaskets. These gaskets may be stuck to the brake caliper and/or the brake hose end.

Installation Procedure

    Important: Install NEW copper brake hose gaskets.

  1. Assemble the NEW copper brake hose gaskets, and the brake hose bolt to the brake hose.

  2. Object Number: 156274  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the brake hose to caliper bolt and NEW washers to the brake caliper.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 44 N·m (32 lb ft).

    Important: The hose must not be twisted. Make sure the hose is not in contact with any suspension component.

  5. With the weight of the vehicle on the suspension, install the brake hose into the bracket.
  6. Install the brake hose retaining clip to the hose mounting bracket.
  7. Remove the rubber cap or plug from the exposed brake pipe fitting end.
  8. Connect the brake pipe fitting nut to the brake hose:
  9. • Use a backup wrench on the hose fitting.
    • Do not bend the bracket or the pipe.

    Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  10. Ensure that the hose does not make contact with any part of the suspension. If the hose makes contact, remove the hose and correct the condition.
  11. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding .
  12. Lower the vehicle.

Rear Brake Hose Replacement Jounce

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Clean all dirt and foreign material from the brake hose and brake pipe fitting.
  3. Important: Install a rubber cap or plug to the exposed brake pipe fitting ends in order to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

  4. Use a backup wrench on the hose fitting, disconnect the brake pipe fitting from the brake hose, then cap or plug the brake pipe fitting end.
  5. Disconnect the jounce hose from the brake pipe at the frame.
  6. Remove the jounce hose retaining clip.
  7. Remove the jounce hose from the bracket.
  8. Remove the left and the right brake pipes from the jounce hose junction block.
  9. Remove the junction block mounting bolt from the axle.
  10. Remove the jounce hose.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the jounce hose.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure.   3. Install the jounce hose mounting bolt to the axle.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  5. Install the left and the right brake pipes to the jounce hose junction block.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

    Important: The hose must not be twisted. Make sure the hose is not in contact with any suspension component.

  7. With the weight of the vehicle on the suspension, install the jounce hose into the bracket.
  8. Install the jounce hose retaining clip.
  9. Connect the jounce hose to the brake pipe at the frame.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  11. Ensure that the hose does not make contact with any part of the suspension. If the hose makes contact, remove the hose and correct the condition.
  12. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding .
  13. Lower the vehicle.
