- With the brake drum removed, clean the braking (friction) surface
of the park brake shoes with denatured alcohol or an equivalent approved brake
cleaner.
- Inspect the braking surface of the park brake shoes for the following
Braking Surface Conditions:
• | Deep grooves or scoring |
• | Cracks and/or heat spots |
• | Excessive blueing discoloration |
- If the braking surface of the park brake shoes exhibits one or
more of the Braking Surface Conditions, the shoes require replacement.
- Measure and record the thinnest point of each of the park brake
shoe linings.
- Compare the thickness recorded to the following specification:
Specification
Park brake shoe minimum allowable thickness 0.75 mm
(0.030 in).
- If the park brake shoe thickness is less than the specification,
the shoes require replacement.
