Diagnostic Aids

If the clutch release is noisy with the clutch fully engaged or during engagement, you will also need to check the release bearing for burrs, nicks.

Did you review the clutch symptom operations and perform the necessary inspections?

Go to Step 2

  1. Replace the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission NV-4500.
  2. Inspect the release bearing.

Is the release bearing worn?

Go to Step 3

Replace the release bearing in the concentric slave cylinder. Refer to Clutch Concentric Actuator Cylinder Replacement .

Is the clutch release bearing still noisy?

Go to Step 4

System OK

Inspect the clutch release bearing for binding on the slave cylinder body.

Is the release bearing binding on the transmission bearing retainer?

Go to Step 5

System OK

Inspect for weak linkage return spring.

Is the return spring weak?

Go to Step 6

System OK

Replace the return spring. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement

Did you find and repair the condition?

Go to Step 7

  1. Install the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission NV-4500.
  2. Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
