Removal Procedure

    Notice: Do not start the vehicle with any power steering gear inlet or outlet hoses disconnected. When disconnected, plug or cap all openings of components. Failure to do so could result in contamination or loss of power steering fluid and damage to the system.

  1. Place a drain pan under the vehicle.
  2. Remove the power steering hose (3) fitting from the power steering gear.
  3. Remove the clamp retaining the power steering hose to the power steering pump.
  4. Remove the front grille from the vehicle. Refer to Grille Replacement in Exterior Trim.

  6. Remove the bolts retaining the power steering cooler (1) to the radiator support.
  7. Remove the power steering cooler from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 686121  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the power steering cooler (1) to the radiator support.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts (2) retaining the power steering cooler to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  3. Install the power steering inlet hose to the power steering gear (1).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the power steering hose fitting to 28 N·m (20 lb ft).

  5. Install the power steering cooler outlet hose (1) to the power steering gear.

  6. Object Number: 754771  Size: SH
  7. Using the J 43218 install and crimp the retaining clamp.
  8. Fill and bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  9. Inspect all the hose connections for leaks.
  10. Install the front grille to the vehicle. Refer to Grille Replacement in Exterior Trim.
