The audible warning system is controlled by the multifunction alarm module (MFAM). The MFAM activates a chime in order to alert the driver of a system concern or a critical vehicle condition. Power is provided to the MFAM via the ignition 1 voltage circuit.

Fasten Safety Belt Warning

The MFAM monitors the seat belt switch signal circuit. When the MFAM detects that the driver seat belt is not buckled, and the signal is low. The MFAM provides power via the seat belt indicator control circuit in order to illuminate the fasten safety belt indicator. The fasten safety belt chime activates for 8 seconds. If the seat belt is not buckled, the fasten safety belt indicator will illuminate continuously for 15 seconds and then flash for 60 seconds. The fasten safety belt warning activates and the fasten safety belt indicator illuminates when the following occurs:

    • Ignition switch transitions to ON.
    • The seat belt switch signal to the MFAM is low.
    • At the beginning of each ignition cycle during the displays test.

If the seat belt is buckled when the ignition is turned on, the chime will not activate. If the seat belt is buckled while the chime is activated, the chime will cycle through the remainder of the 8 seconds.

Key-In-Ignition Warning

The MFAM monitors the key in ignition switch signal circuit. When the MFAM detects that the key is in the ignition and the driver door is open, the signal circuit is low. The MFAM activates an audible warning. The MFAM activates the key-in-ignition chime when all of the following occurs:

    • The ignition switch is OFF, with the key in the ignition.
    •  The key-in-ignition switch signal is low.
    • The driver door jamb switch signal is low.

The key-in-warning chime will deactivate when one of the following occurs:

    • The key is removed from the ignition.
    • The driver door is closed.

Lights On Warning

The lights on warning chime activates when the headlamp and panel dimmer switch is ON or in the PARK position and the ignition is OFF with the driver door open. The MFAM will activate the chime when the following occurs:

    • The ignition is OFF.
    • The headlamp or the park lamp switch input is active.
    • The panel dimmer switch input is active.

The chime will activate until the headlamp and panel dimmer switch is placed in the OFF position or the driver door is closed.

Overspeed Warning Alarm

The overspeed warning alarm is only provided in export vehicles. The overspeed alarm chime will activate when the vehicle speed exceeds 120 km/h (76 mph). This speed is not adjustable and is based on a frequency generated by the PCM through the VSS signal circuit.
