Perform the following brake caliper inspections:
- Inspect the outside of the brake caliper (1) for cracks, excessive
wear, and damage. Replace as necessary.
- Inspect the piston dust boot (2) for proper seating in the caliper
body.
- Inspect the piston dust boot for holes and tears. Replace as necessary.
- Inspect the caliper for brake fluid leakage around the piston
dust boot and on the brake pads. Overhaul or replace the caliper if there
are sign of leakage.
- Using a c-clamp, bottom
the caliper piston in the caliper bore. The movement of the piston should
be smooth and even as it slides into the caliper bore. If the piston is frozen
or difficult to bottom, the piston and/or the bore is rusted or corroded,
and the caliper must be overhauled or replaced.
