Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect both the battery negative cables from the batteries. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  2. Remove the transmission from the vehicle.
  3. • For vehicles equipped the 4L80-E automatic transmission, refer to Transmission Replacement in Automatic Transmission - 4L80-E.
    • For vehicles equipped with the NV 4500 manual transmission, refer to Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission - NV 4500.
  4. Remove the clutch assembly from the crankshaft if equipped. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement in Clutch.
  5. Caution: When removing, handling or installing this component wear protective gloves. The sharp edges on the component may be very sharp and may cause injury.

  6. Remove the flywheel from the crankshaft.

Installation Procedure

    Caution: When removing, handling or installing this component wear protective gloves. The sharp edges on the component may be very sharp and may cause injury.

    Important: Do not resurface the flywheel, replace the flywheel if damaged due to over heating or excessive wear.

  1. Install the flywheel to the crankshaft
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the flywheel mounting bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 90 N·m (65 lb ft).

  5. Install the clutch assembly if equipped. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement in Clutch.
  6. Install the transmission in the vehicle.
  7. • For vehicles equipped with the 4L80-E automatic transmission, refer to Transmission Replacement in Automatic Transmission - 4L80-E.
    • For vehicles equipped with the NV 4500 manual transmission, refer to Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission NV 4500.
  8. Connect both the battery negative cable to the batteries. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
