to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the front propeller shaft-two piece propeller shaft,
or the front and/or the intermediate propeller shaft-three piece propeller
shaft, as necessary. Refer to
Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement
or
Three-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement
.
- Remove the center bearing by doing the following:
3.1. | Remove the propeller shaft yoke nut-three piece propeller
shaft only. |
3.2. | Remove the propeller shaft link yoke-three piece propeller
shaft only. |
3.3. | Stand the propeller shaft on end in a hydraulic press with the
center bearing supported by press bars. |
3.4. | Press the propeller shaft down and off the center bearing. |
3.5. | Remove the center bearing. |
Installation Procedure
- Install the center bearing
onto the propeller shaft by pressing the center bearing onto the shaft using
a hydraulic press.
- Install the propeller shaft link yoke-three piece propeller
shaft only.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the propeller shaft yoke nut-three piece propeller shaft
only.
Tighten
Tighten the propeller shaft yoke nut to 95 N·m (70 lb ft).
- Install the front propeller shaft-two piece propeller shaft
or the front and/or intermediate propeller shaft-three piece propeller
shaft, as necessary. Refer to
Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement
or
Three-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement
.
- Lower the vehicle.
