The interior lighting consist of the following lamps:
• | The courtesy lamps |
• | The IP compartment and dome lamps |
• | The interior backlighting |
When the driver places the dome lamp defeat switch in the OFF position, the courtesy lamps will be disabled. If an outside door handle is lifted or a door is opened, the courtesy lamps illuminate. After all the doors have been closed the courtesy lamps will remain illuminated approximately 10 seconds after the last door closes. The courtesy lamps will also turn on prior to any door being opened, and remain illuminated approximately 20 seconds when the driver removes the ignition key.
The CTSY fuse in the IP junction block, supplies battery positive voltage to the interior lamp control module. The control circuit of the interior lamp control module supplies ground to all interior courtesy lamps. When any door is opened or a courtesy lamp request input is received by the interior lamp control module, the interior lamp control module will illuminate the courtesy lamps.
The courtesy lamps will normally turn off after the doors are closed, or if the ignition switch is turned to either the ON or RUN position.
When the driver uses the door key in order to unlock the doors, the keyless entry module receives a door unlock signal. The keyless entry module must have inputs that indicate that the ignition switch is OFF, the courtesy lamp switch is OFF and all the doors are closed. The keyless entry module will then activate the interior lamps. The courtesy lamps will remain on, approximately 10 seconds after the door is closed. The keyless entry module will then turn them off. If the door locks are activated to the LOCK position, or if the ignition switch is turned to either the RUN or CRANK position the courtesy lamps will turn off immediately.
When the driver uses the remote function actuator transmitter to unlock the doors, the keyless entry module will keep the courtesy lamps on approximately 10 seconds. If the door locks are activated to the UNLOCK or LOCK position, or if the ignition switch is turned to either the RUN or CRANK position the courtesy lamps will turn off immediately.
The courtesy fuse provides battery positive voltage to the instrument panel compartment lamp. When the IP compartment is opened, its switch closes to provide a ground circuit and the IP compartment lamp illuminates.
The dome lamp may be manually turned on by placing the IP dimmer control to the ON position, otherwise, the dome lamp will illuminate when the door is opened. When the driver depresses the dome lamp switch, the dome lamp will be disabled.
The CTSY fuse in the IP fuse block supplies battery positive voltage to the dome lamp assembly.
The interior lamps dimming group consists of the following lamps:
• | HVAC control head assembly |
• | Radio |
• | The instrument panel cluster (IPC) |
• | The ashtray lamp |
• | The power take off (PTO) switch |
• | The door and window switches |
When the headlight switch is turned to the PARK or HEAD position, all incandescent back lighting turn on at the dimming level indicated by the IP dimmer switch. When the IP dimmer switch is moved from MIN to MAX, all incandescent back lighting will respond from minimum intensity to maximum brightness in response to the IP dimmer switch.
The instrument panel dimming system operates to provide a variable level of illumination at the speedometer and control switches. By adjusting the position of the dimmer control on the IP cluster, a variable voltage is supplied to the system lamps and components. The instrument panel lamp dimmer switch consists of an internal potentiometer which varies the voltage to the lamps depending on the position of the dimmer wheel. The intensity of the lamps vary according to the position of the IP dimmer switch.
