Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and the wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels .
  3. Remove the rear disc brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement .
  4. Remove the bolts securing the backing plate to the axle flange.
  5. Remove the backing plate.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the backing plate.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the backing plate bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 105 N·m (78 lb ft).

  5. Install the rear disc brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement .
  6. Install the tire and the wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels .
  7. Important: Pump the brake pedal until it is firm before moving the vehicle. Check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder after pumping the brakes.

  8. Lower the vehicle.
