Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 102870  Size: SH
  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the oil fill plug.

  3. Object Number: 761106  Size: SH
  4. Place a suitable drain pan under the transmission in order to catch the drained transmission fluid.
  5. Remove the lower middle power take off (PTO) cover bolt.
  6. Drain the fluid.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 761106  Size: SH
  1. Apply a thin bead of sealant GM P/N 12345739 (Canadian P/N 10953541) or equivalent to the PTO bolt threads.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the PTO cover bolt.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the PTO cover bolt to 41 N·m (30 lb ft).

  5. Fill the transmission to just below the bottom of the fill plug hole. Refer to Lubrication Specifications .

  6. Object Number: 102870  Size: SH
  7. Remove all existing sealant from the oil fill plug hole.
  8. Apply a thin bead of sealant GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or equivalent to the threads of the oil fill plug hole.
  9. Install the oil fill plug.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the oil fill plug to 37 N·m (27 lb ft).

  11. Lower the vehicle.
