Diagnostic Aids

The clutch is noisy when it is fully engaged. In some cases there may be improper pedal travel, a faulty pilot bearing, driven disc or the clutch hub binding on the gear spline.

Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. This step explains there parts and the operation of the clutch system.

  2. This step checks for worn or damaged parts.

Did you review the clutch symptom operations and perform the necessary inspections?

Go to Step 2

  1. Remove the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission NV-4500.
  2. Check for a worn release bearing.

Is the release bearing worn?

Go to Step 3

System OK

Replace the release bearing assembly. Refer to Clutch Concentric Actuator Cylinder Replacement .

Is the release bearing still noisy?

Go to Step 4

System OK

Inspect for a worn or loose pilot bearing.

Is the pilot bearing worn or loose?

Go to Step 5

System OK

Replace the pilot bearing. Refer to Clutch Pilot Bearing Replacement .

Did you find and repair the condition?

Go to Step 6

  1. Install the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission NV-4500.
  2. Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

Did you correct the condition?
