Removal Procedure
- Release the park brake.
- Raise the vehicle and support the vehicle with safety stands.
Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Reference mark the center bearing (5) to the crossmember (2).
- Remove the nuts (1), washers, and bolts (3) from
the center bearing.
- Remove the bolts and the
universal joint retainers from the transmission yoke.
- Reference mark the front propeller shaft to the transmission yoke.
- Remove the front propeller shaft from the transmission yoke.
- Tape the bearing cups to the universal joint to prevent the loss
of the needle bearings.
- Position the front propeller shaft to provide access to the park
brake drum.
- Remove the park brake drum to transmission yoke bolts.
- Remove the park brake drum.
Installation Procedure
- Install the park brake
drum.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the park
brake drum to transmission yoke bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 37 N·m (27 lb ft).
- Remove the tape from the bearing cups on the universal joint.
- Align the front propeller shaft to the reference marks on the
transmission yoke.
- Install the front propeller shaft to the transmission yoke.
- Install the universal joint retainers and the bolts
to the transmission yoke.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 37 N·m (27 lb ft).
- Align the center bearing
to the reference marks on the crossmember (2).
- Install the bolts (3), washers, and nuts (1) to
the center bearing (5).
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).
- Adjust the park brake cable. Refer to
Park Brake Adjustment
.
- Lower the vehicle.
