CAMPAIGN:FRONT STABILIZER BAR OMITTED

GENERAL MOTORS HAS DETERMINED THAT SOME 1981 C20 SERIES SUBURBAN MODELS WERE ASSEMBLED WITHOUT FRONT STABILIZER BARS. THIS BAR, WHICH IS OPTIONAL ON CERTAIN OTHER 1981 SERIES SUBURBANS BECAME STANDARD ON C20906 MODEL SUBURBANS IN 1981 AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN INSTALLED DURING ASSEMBLY.

INVOLVED VEHICLES HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED BY VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER COMPUTER LISTINGS. COMPUTER LISTINGS CONTAIN THE COMPLETE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER, OWNER NAME AND ADDRESS DATA, AND ARE FURNISHED TO THE INVOLVED DEALERS WITH THE CAMPAIGN BULLETIN. OWNER NAME AND ADDRESS DATA FURNISHED WILL ENABLE DEALERS TO FOLLOW UP WITH OWNERS INVOLVED IN THIS CAMPAIGN.

THESE LISTINGS MAY CONTAIN OWNER NAMES AND ADDRESSES OBTAINED FROM STATE MOTOR VEHICLE REGISTRATION RECORDS. THE USE OF SUCH MOTOR VEHICLE REGISTRATION DATA FOR ANY OTHER PURPOSE IS A VIOLATION OF LAW IN SEVERAL STATES. ACCORDINGLY YOU ARE URGED TO LIMIT THE USE OF THIS LISTING FOR THE FOLLOW-UP NECESSARY TO COMPLETE THIS CAMPAIGN.

OWNER NOTIFICATION

OWNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED OF THIS CAMPAIGN ON THEIR VEHICLES BY CHEVROLET MOTOR DIVISION (SEE COPY OF OWNER LETTER INCLUDED WITH THIS BULLETIN).

DEALER CAMPAIGN RESPONSIBILITY

THIS RECALL CAMPAIGN IS TO BE PERFORMED AT NO CHARGE TO OWNERS ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES REGARDLESS OF TIME, MILEAGE, OR OWNERSHIP. DEALERS ARE TO INSPECT AND CORRECT ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES IN NEW AND USED VEHICLE STOCK PRIOR TO THEIR SALE.

WHENEVER A VEHICLE SUBJECT TO THIS CAMPAIGN IS TAKEN INTO YOUR NEW OR USED VEHICLE INVENTORY, OR IT IS IN YOUR DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE IN THE FUTURE, YOU SHOULD TAKE THE STEPS NECESSARY TO BE SURE THE CAMPAIGN CORRECTION HAS BEEN MADE.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. RAISE VEHICLE ON HOIST, AND WIRE BRUCH BRACKET CONTACTING SURFACES OF FRAME RAILS AND LOWER CONTROL ARMS TO REMOVE ANY FOREIGN MATERIAL. REFERENCE FIGURE 1.

2. ASSEMBLE RIGHT AND LEFT HAND FRAME BRACKET (P/N 6271375) TO LOWER SURFACE OF FRAME RAILS UTILIZING FOUR (4) BOLTS (P/N 9420462), FOUR (4) LOCK WASHERS (P/N 131099) AND FOUR (4) NUTE (P/N 9414034). TORQUE BOLTS TO 30 FT. LBS. (41 NM). REFERENCE FIGURE 1, VIEW A.

NOTE: SHORT LEG OF BRACKET MUST BE INSTALLED TOWARD FRONT OF VEHICLE.

3. INSTALL AND ORIENT TWO (2) STABILIZER FRAME INSULATORS (P/N 3927019) AND TWO (2) STABILIZER CONTROL ARM INSULATORS (SAME P/N) TO THE STABILIZER BAR (P/N 6274060) UTILIZING A SUITABLE RUBBER LUBRICANT (P/N 1051717) OR EQUIVALENT FROM DEALERS SERVICE SUPPLIES. REFERENCE FIGURE 1.

NOTE: SPLIT IN STABILIZER FRAME INSULATOR MUST BE ORIENTED TO BE FACING TOWARD THE FRONT OF VEHICLE.

4. POSITION STABILIZER BAR AND L.H ATTACHING CLAMP (P/N 334671) ON L.H BRACKET (P/N 6271375), INSURING THAT THE INSULATOR IS PROPERLY ORIENTED UNDER THE ATTACHING CLAMP. SECURE BY AHDN TIGHTENING TWO (2) BOLTS (P/N 9418824) AND TWO (2) NUTS (P/N 9422297). REFERENCE FIGURE1.

5. POSITION STABILIZER BAR AND R.H. ATTACHING CLAMP (P/N 334671) TO R.H. FRAME BRACKET, INSURING THE INSULATOR IS PROPERLY ORIENTED UNDER THE ATTACHING CLAMP. SECURE BY HAND TIGHTENING TWO (2) BOLTS (P/N 9418824) AND TWO (2) NUTS (P/N 9422297). REFERENCE FIGURE 1.

6. POSITION THE TWO (2) STABILIZER LOWER CONTROL ARM ATTACHING CLAMPS (P/N 334671) INSULATORS (SLIT MAY BE ORIENTED EITHER WAY) AND SECURE TO CONTROL ARM UTILIZING TWO (2) BOLTS (P/N 9418824) AND TWO (2) NUTS (P/N 9422297) FOR EACH BRACKET. REFERENCE FIGURE 1.

7. TORQUE CLAMP ATTACHMENTS TO 25 FT. LBS. (34 NM) AND LOWER VEHICLE.

CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL

EACH VEHICLE MODIFIED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE INSTRUCTIONS OUTLINED IN THIS PRODUCT CAMPAIGN BULLETIN WILL REQUIRE A "CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL." EACH LABEL PROVIDES A SPACE TO INCLUDE THE FIVE DIGIT DEALER CODE OF THE DEALER PERFORMING THE CAMPAIGN SERVICE. THIS INFORMATION MAY BE INSERTED WITH A TYPEWRITER OR BALLPOINT PEN.

EACH "CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL" IS TO BE LOCATED ON THE RADIATOR CORE SUPPORT IN AN AREA WHICH WILL BE VISIBLE WHEN THE VEHICLE IS BROUGHT IN FOR PERIODIC SERVICING BY THE OWNER.

APPLY "CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL" ONLY ON A CLEAN DRY SURFACE.
